We are a team that supports faculty, students, and staff in Caltech's divisions and research centers, including the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and non-academic groups such as Development & Institute Relations, Strategy Implementation, and Student Affairs. We are honored to have been awarded Caltech's 2021 Team Impact Award.
VIDEO PRODUCTION & PHOTOGRAPHY
Caltech AMT has created award-winning
videos to accompany research and science press releases and websites, promote special events, thank donors, and celebrate Caltech community events such as Commencement. Gallery of Caltech AMT productions..
We record across campus, both outdoor and indoor, including Caltech AMT's New Media Classroom studio,
faculty offices, auditoria, libraries, and student houses. We direct multi-camera shoots with 4K, HD Studio, and DSLR cameras, as well as create original animations and motion graphics.
Additionally, we provide photography for head shots and websites. Stills from Caltech AMT footage can be used for web and print publication uses.
EVENT & LECTURE RECORDING
Caltech AMT records and live broadcasts special announcements, events, lectures, and courses. Examples include the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics Press Conference, TEDxCaltech, Commencement, Watson Lecture series, and Machine Learning course.
Recordings are available via the following online Caltech channels - YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Ustream - and can also be delivered as commemorative DVD-video and Blu-Ray discs.EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
We partner with faculty and Caltech's Center for Teaching, Learning, and Outreach (CTLO) to explore new classroom technologies that assist in teaching and learning on campus and online. An example is creating Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on Coursera, edX, and iTunes U platforms. See a full list of Caltech's online courses. Caltech AMT assists with the recording, editing, encoding, transcription generating, and uploading of content.
In 2017, Caltech AMT was awarded the CASE Gold Award for Best Use of Social Media/Technology for the Alumni Cohort of The Science of the Solar System MOOC, a partnership with GPS, the Caltech Alumni Association, CTLO, and Development & Institute Relations.
In addition to supporting MOOCs, Caltech AMT deploys and maintains Echo360 in auditoria across campus for automated lecture capture of colloquia, courses, and outreach events.
In March 2020, AMT with IMSS, CTLO, and other groups across campus, implemented and created training for the technologies and platforms that supported remote instruction. We are also part of the team that supports Caltech's Learning Management System, Canvas, that was launched in August 2020.
AUDIO VISUAL SUPPORT & INSTALLATION
Caltech AMT provides audio visual support for events, including setting up and striking sound systems and projectors, assisting with front-of-house presentations, audio and video recording, etc. Every event is unique. We are happy to work with you to craft the right solution.
We have designed audio visual installations across campus,
including lecture halls, classrooms, conference rooms, and offices.
Working with the electricians and carpenters on campus, we
upgraded the Caltech gym with new LCD flatscreens and WiFi sound
system, and installed a new screen, HD projector, and AirPlay system in
the Center for Teaching, Learning, & Outreach. AMT is currently focused on upgrading the Caltech Hall Board Room for hybrid meetings and is not able to lead on any new installation projects.

AMT also offers a number of other services, including:
- Original digital illustrations for research publications
- High-definition (HD) Polycom 9000 series videoconferencing system in the New Media Classroom
- Media mastering of legacy formats (VHS, audio cassettes, U-matic tapes, etc.) and Blu-ray Disc and DVD-video mastering and duplication
- Rentals of video and audio equipment, LCD projectors, screens, and legacy equipment
